Experience of Active Learning

During my study time, I have a lot of labs due to my major in science. Labs are really good for an example of active learning. During a lab, students need to do an experiment by themselves. This means students need to actively read lab instruction and understand the procedure properly.

Reading a lab instruction is actual a passive learning. When it combines with a lab, it really increase the effective rate that how we understand the material. After did an experiment, the understand of materials will deeper than just read materials.

Active Learning in EDCI337

For week 7, the lecture introduced how we can create a Screencasting. In Week 8 we have been taught how we can do a video editing. A video was made by ourselves can help us to learning that topic more effective. After we tried, we will have a better understand of that topic.

Game-based Learning and Gamification

Game-based learning is more focus on gaming in the class. However, gamification means put game elements into class, it more focus on lectures. Therefore, these are two different things for me. In middle school, my science teacher always had some gamification element for us to understand new knowledge. For example, she would bring us to a park and let us find some leaves. Which group can find more leave we introduced in class before, she will give the whole group some snacks. These kinds of activities are so much fun than just setting in the classroom and read the powerpoint.

Active Learning is a good thing for every subjects. In my opinion, students need to interested in an area, and they can continue study. Interesting will lead them to study by themselves by different ways. Therefore, active learning is good for students.

    Hi Queenie
your experience about active learning is so real, it reflect my lab as well. And I also believe students need to interested in an area so that they can put more energy in study than wasting time.
