Multimedia Skills of Screencasting

The previous Screencasting

This video is made for EDCI337 Week seven’s lab. It shows how people can log in Vic brightspace and use it.
However, it is too short and does not show in details. The goal of creating this Screencasting is to let new students
clearly know how they can use this website more effectively.

Multimedia rules need to improve in Screencasting

  1. Knowing the person will watch this video
  2. Make it focus on details
  3. Video structure should be clear

Things should be asked before make a new Screencasting

  1. Is this video make students feel easier to use brightspace?
  2. Will they follow my steps shown in video?
  3. How long should is be?
  4. How can I help them to deepen their memory?

New Screencasting

Here is a new updated version of how to use brightspce using laptops. I choose to introduce more details than the
first video. For example, in this video I decided to show how people can use brightspce to attempt an online quiz or
check their grades.

After I recorded the laptop version I found out people use phone more frequently than laptops. Therefore, I choose
to share a phone version of using Brightspace.

Improvement of multimedia tools

Multimedia in nowadays study is very important. Thought EDC 337 we studied different ways to evaluate a
multimedia tool. For example, Screencasting should be clearly show important information that audience may
interested in. In week eight’s lecture we learned “SECTIONS” model.

• Students: Students in UVic who if going to use brightspace but not familiar with it.
• Ease of use: It is very easy to watch videos though any equipments they want.
• Costs: Making a Screencasting is low costing on money and energy.
• Teaching functions: Students can follow step by step with the video. Easy to learn.
• Interaction: For students who has no idea about brightspace the video will be a good way to learn it.
• Organizational issues: Most institution should support the technologv
• Networking: Discussing using brightspace with schoolmates also is a good way of networking.
• Security and privacy: Screencasting is not a very privacy way for recorders if the recorder do not hide their
information properly. However, it is safe for students to watch and learn information.

Hi Queenie. Thank you for sharing your self made introductory video about the UVic website. I think that your use of SECTIONS model is accurate and I liked it a lot. Perhaps, some editing will make the viewer engaging, although iMovie does not include interesting features. We shall probably use some editing softwares while working on our assignment 4 project. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts.
